Meybod World Craft City for Ziloo
Meybod is an ancient city long known for its Pottery and Ziloo. It is one of the earliest settlements in Iran with seven-thousand-year history. This city is located in the north of Yazd Province, Iran. Much of the city is made up of adobe buildings, with a kind of reddish clay. In 2018, this city was registered on World Crafts Council (WCC) list as the World City for Ziloo. Ziloo is one of the oldest Persian rug that is made of pure cotton. This carpet is one of the most enduring carpets that is completely plant-based and is made of pure cotton. Plants such as madder, pomegranate skin, and walnut shell are used to create natural dyes for ziloo which typically come in two color combinations- blue and white, blue and yellow, and green and orange are among the most common pairs though reds are also common. Currently more than 200 women and men in city are occupied with this old art. Many centers are active in education, introduction and promotion of ziloo weaving art.
