Tanbur is a musical instrument which has long neck and a pear-shaped body and it is made of berry tree wood. Tanbur making is popular among Kurdish people especially Marivan’s people. The age of this instrument goes back to about 5-6 thousand years ago and this issue can be proven from the age of stone sculptures and ancient works of Susa. Also, the name of this instrument can be seen in the "one thousand and one nights" book, poems of Hafez and Rumi. Mulberry or walnut wood is used to make this instrument. The tanbur consists of a half pear bowl with a long handle, has 3 main strings, and its total length is between 70 and 80 cm. Tambour making is one of the old handicrafts of the western region of Iran.
